Can TMac Stay Healthy for the Houston Rockets?
The Houston Rockets had a good season in 08′-09′ compiling a record of 53-29 – finishing second in the Southwest division behind the San Antonio Spurs.
The Rockets defeated the young Portland Trailblazers team in the first round of the playoffs 4-2. The Rockets season ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in 7 games in round 2.
The Houston Rockets have a lot of unanswered questions they will have to address. Is it time to cut Tracey McGrady? McGrady never seems to be healthy anymore. The year the Rockets finally made it to the second round McGrady wasn’t even in the line up.
The loss of Ron Artest will be felt because he was the second leading scorer on the team at 17 points per game behind Yao Ming. The Rockets are hoping Trevor Ariza will be a superstar and his playoff performance was a glimpse of the future.
The loss of Ron Artest is a blow because he was one of their best defenders. The Rockets ranked 6th in opposing team scoring last season but should see a drop off without Artest this season.
Hopefully the Rockets can get Yao Ming back sometime during the latter half of the season before the playoffs. Most teams that usually go all the way usually have a stud big man. Yao is exactly that, if he can ever stay healthy.
The concern that has haunted the Rockets for the past few years is injuries. Will T-Mac stay healthy? Is his time up? How about the fact that the Rockets advanced in the playoff without him?
Whether this has to do with having better players around him or issues with his health isn’t known, maybe both. McGrady’s scoring average always increased during the playoffs but he would face better teams and couldn’t make it out the first round.
